This life-size portrait depicts the young Friederike Luise Wilhelmine. She wears a floor-length dress in the Rococo style with a pink waist bow and shoes in the same colour. Her left hand rests on an armchair next to a piano, while her right hand holds a music book containing a sonata dedicated to her: “VI S(ONATE ...) ALTESSE (...) MADAME LA PRINCESSE HEREDITAIRE DE BRUNSWICK.” The mention of her as “Princess of Braunschweig” allows the painting to be dated to the period after her marriage to the Braunschweig Crown Prince Karl Georg August in 1790. The composition is based on the 1788 portrait of Friederike by J. F .A. Tischbein, which is in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux.
